Meiji Period, signed Jorai sei
Between narrow, enameled geometric bands at the foot and the mouth, the miniature is decorated with a scene of Kannon with two attendants receiving lotuses and supplications from a troupe of macaques. Another scene depicts two courtiers in a scene with boys and a distant temple. Two side panels are delicately painted with birds and overlaid with a raised slip design depicting wire meshing and the cover is decorated with a floral starburst. Height 3 1/8 inches (8 cm).
