Collection of approximately 1100 still photographs, vintage prints or later copies, including many with studio identification of scene on verso, several with the photographer's stamp including Ernest Bachrach. 10 x 8 inches, a few smaller. A few with signs of wear.
Dolores Del Rio (1905-1983), born in Mexico and a star in both the U.S. and Mexico, was noted for her distinctive beauty. Her career in Hollywood began in 1925 and included roles in "What Price Glory" (1927) and "Madame Du Barry" (1934). In 1943 she went back to Mexico, where she made a series of enormously popular films, occasionally returning to Hollywood, where she appeared as late as 1960 in "Flaming Star" with Elvis Presley. Douglas Whitney's extensive archive of Del Rio photographs was drawn on by Larry Carr for his More Fabulous Faces, and Whitney's account of his friendship with the star is quoted in Annette Tapert, The Power of Glamour.
