DIETRICH, MARLENE; Approximately 650 photographic stills
Collection of approximately 650 still photographs, vintage prints or later copies, including many with studio identification of scene on verso, some with the photographer's stamp of Whitey Schafer, Jules Buck, or Mack Elliott. Mostly 10 x 8 inches, a few smaller. A few with signs of wear.
In 1923 Marlene Dietrich (1904-1992) appeared in films for the first time: a brief role in the German "Der Kleine Napoleon." Her most famous role was in "The Blue Angel" (1930). She emigrated to Hollywood, where she was an immediate success in "Morocco" with Gary Cooper and "Blonde Venus" with Cary Grant; in the early 1930s she was Hollywood's highest-paid actress. Her career in films continued, with many gaps, until 1978.
