John G.F. von Wicht was born in Germany, where he was trained at the private art school of the Grand Duke of Hesse in Darmstadt and at the Royal School for Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin. He emigrated to the United States in 1923, where he was later invited to join the American Abstract Artists
