Dirty, yellowed varnish. Scattered inpainting along perimeter due to frame rubbing, and one 6" area of inpaint in upper right corner. Scattered scuffs and abrasions throughout, particularly in lower portion of painting. 3 fine horizontal scratches, approximately 9 inches in length, in lower left corner. 1 1/2" horizontal scratch in sitter's left hand. 3 pinhole-size losses along left shoulder. Dulling varnish makes it difficult to detect possible earlier restoration.
