Additional Notes & Condition Report

Man: Frame rubbing. Two repaired tears with corresponding patches on the reverse, each roughly 2 x 2 inches with inpaint surrounding, one in sitter's forehead and one in hair. Canvas is slightly buckled. Minor scuffs and abrasion throughout.

Woman: Frame rubbing. Canvas bears stamp that reads, "Prepared by Edward Dechaux, New York." (Active 1836-1860). Visible stretcher marks; canvas is slightly buckled. 3 x 3 inch patch on the reverse, corresponding to repair in the woman's bonnet at upper right. Also inpainting/restoration at bottom right. Minor cracquelure as well as bit of paint flaking throughout.

Both portraits could benefit from a surface cleaning.
