Frame rubbing. 1/8'' area of paint loss in the man's right shoulder as well as 1/4'' area at lower right corner. Few white scuffs, particularly on the right side of the panel. Light surface dirt. Various spots of inpainting in the black areas of pigment, including in the feather at lower left, the writing on the letter and the ink bottle. This may simply be the nature of the pigment but it is difficult to tell.
