Minton Majolica Figural Wine Cooler
Of classical form, with a puce interior, two bearded mermen form handles with entwined tails supporting turquoise colored nautilus shells decorated with green garland swags, on an ochre circular base, stamped MINTON and 1652. Height 16 1/2 inches.

The upper portion of the neck on the interior side may possibly be over-painted. There are at least two areas on the interior sill (one at base of neck and another at the underside of the upper rim edge) that have been infilled. Top edge of cooler has color inconsistencies and may also be overpainted. There is a vertical hairline crack and a horizontal hairline crack in the neck area. One top of the "cattails" in the hair of one of the mermen is restored and replaced. The merman on the opposite side has restorations, infilling and over-paint to an area of the leaves, lock of hair and "cattail" tip. There is a vertical hairline crack on the base, extending upwards approximately three inches in length. Impressed MINTON on the underside together with a model number.
