Each center painted with three-quarter profiles of ladies of the French aristocracy and Court, including Madame Recamier, and Madame Vigee le Brun and her daughter, Empress Josephine. Diameter 9 1/2 inches.

Five of the plates are damaged, including rim chips to the underside and top side. One of these damaged plates has a significant break and poor repair; other plates appear to be in good condition. All plates have wear to the gilding, particularly the band surrounding the painted centers. Each plate is artist signed: '. Soustre; underside stamped H & Co. France in green, stamped Haviland & Co. in red; each portrait is indentified on verso.
