[COLOR PLATE] TERZI, ANDREA. La Capella Di. S. Pietro nella Recchia di Palermo.
. Palermo: Branci, [?1875]-1889. three-quarters calf, orange cloth sides. 25 inches (63 cm); illuminated half-title, 1 f., 56, 10, 8 pp., plus a final leaf listing the 98 plates, most of which are in rich chromolithography after Terzi. The plates conform to this list in detail, which includes many bis plates. There is no plate 48 present, but none is called for on the plate list. Minor wear to binding, a small tear to the front cloth, occasional minor foxing within, but generally very clean.
Of considerable interest, both for the beauty of the chromolithography, and for the details (in the final plates) of the Islamic elements in the great Norman Palatine Chapel. These remain from the original 9th century Arab structure, which was restored in the 12th century.
