Additional Notes & Condition Report

Glue lined. Heavy cracquelure on the clothing and in the hair. Large area of inpaint in the upper right quadrant in the shape of a shield, as if a coat of arms was painted out. Scattered inpaint on the sitter's face, especially on the left half of the lips, and in the collar and tie. The right contour of the face is reinforced with corresponding scattered inpaint. Two lines of inpaint on the sitter's clothing, one approximately 4-inches long and located to the left of the top brass button and the other approximately 1-inch long and located to the right of the sitter's left lapel. Repaired tear, approximately 1-inch, above the right mast of the ship with corresponding inpaint running into the topsail. Scattered inpaint on the sails and along the horizon line of the water. Considerable inpaint on the portion of the document falling over the edge of the table.
