  • Sale Featured Creations by David Webb, Tiffany & Co., Seaman Schepps, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels and Others

Doyle New York’s inaugural Fine Jewelry auction on Tuesday, February 09, 2010 saw competitive international bidding from hundreds of buyers in the crowded salesroom, on the telephones, and via the Internet. Perfectly timed for Valentine’s Day, the auction offered a broad array of jewelry with more moderate estimates than in the Important Estate Jewelry sales. Showcased were glittering creations – including many signed pieces – set with diamonds, colored stones and pearls, as well as gold jewelry, fine watches, and gentlemen's accessories.

Among the prominent jewelers represented in the sale were David Webb, Tiffany & Co., Bulgari, Cartier, Seaman Schepps, Mauboussin, Van Cleef & Arpels, Elsa Peretti and others. Fine watches for ladies and gentlemen featured examples by Rolex, Movado, Mauboussin, Cartier, Chopard, Chaumet and Tiffany & Co. The sale also offered clocks by Gucci and Hermes. With the current auction market for jewelry at all price levels remaining strong and vibrant, this new sale category offered opportunities for both buyers and sellers alike.

The competition between private buyers and dealers resulted in strong prices throughout the sale and a strong total of $795,258, far surpassing the pre-sale estimate of $414,830-599,930, with an astonishing 96% sold by lot and value.
