26 x 32 inches
During the month of June 1902, Robert Henri and his wife, Linda, stayed at her parents' summer home in Black Walnut, in the lush Wyoming Valley in northeastern Pennsylvania. Inspired by the countryside, Robert produced a number of oils, distinctive for the fluid, bold brushwork evident in the present work. Although these are generally pochades, small panels ideal for painting out-of-doors, a composition identical in size to the present work, depicting the Wyoming Valley and dated April, 1903, is included in the permanent collection of the Milwaukee Art Museum.
