. Washington: GPO, 1947. Inscribed and with a letter tipped in from Charles E. Wilson, Chairman of the President's Committee on Civil Rights. Original gilt stamped cloth. 9 3/4 x 6 1/2 inches (25 x 17 cm); 178 pp. Spine tips rubbed, one small stain to upper cover, letter folded to fit within and affixed at upper margin to the front pastedown with some creases and residue.
An important and pro-active measure taken by the Truman administration to investigate racism and civil rights in the late 1940s. Presentation copies of this title are scarce with the auction record only showing one copy sold which was inscribed by Sadie Alexander, a member of the committee. The letter present here is addressed to Arthur Rosenberg of New York and Wilson writes "Naturally, we all have reservations, but I certainly had a great committee to work with and believe it did a job that will stand the test of time."
