[FRANKLIN, BENJAMIN] Anno Regni Georgii II. Regis, Magnae Britanniae, Franciae & Hiberniae, Tricesimo Tertio ... Anno Regni Georgii ...

The first seventeen parts (Tricesimo Tertio to Quinto), Philadelphia: Printed and Sold by Benjamin Franklin, 1760-65; the last nine parts Philadelphia: Printed and Sold [variously] by David Hall; D. Hall and W. Sellers; and William Goddard, 1766-1769. Two volumes, matching plain brown calf spine and corners, the first volume with marbled paper over boards, the second with blue paper over boards (early bindings, probably done from the parts, as there is evidence of stab-stitching in the gutter margins). 11 3/4 x 7 inches (29.5 x 18 cm); consecutively paginated [1]-754 pp., with all the title pages (part of the pagination) present. Bindings rubbed and worn, the covers of the first exhibiting some damp-staining, occasional toning, foxing and spotting, a few minor stains etc., but overall a clean, sound set.
Benjamin Franklin printed the Laws passed by the General Assembly from 1730 on. He was replaced by Hall (with whom he worked), Sellers (and, at one point), Goddard after he ceased to print in 1766. Gracefully if practically printed in Caslon on Franklin's press, these laws covered all aspects of private and civic life, and represent a fascinating window into matters as diverse as agriculture, soldiers' pay, fishing, the regulation of the Port of Philadelphia, etc. Miller 735; 757; 758; 759; 777; 778; 779; 790; 791; 792; 793; 817; 818; 819; 844; 845; 846.
