Group of five American children's books, including Waugh, Frederick J. The Clan of Munes. Scribner's: New York, 1916. First edition. Bright original cloth in an imperfect, but substantially complete jacket; Rose,William G. The Radium Book. Self-published, 1905. Boards a bit worn; Winter, Milo. Billy Popgun. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1912. First trade edition. About fine; Cooper, Frederic Taber. An Argosy of Fables. New York: Stokes, [1921]. One of 365 copies, illustrated by Paul Bransom. A fine copy in jacket; "Childe Harold." A Child's Book of Abridged Wisdom. San Francisco: Paul Elder, (1908). Fine copy in the original jacket and belly-band.
Sold with three other lesser works, both English and American. Waugh's The Clan of Munes is one of the most bizarre (and wonderful) illustrated books of the period, based on the weathered woods of Monhegan Island in Maine, though somehow transported to the American Northwest. It is hard to conceive of children thrilling to the wonderful but spooky illustrations.
