Original relievo leather covers and spine with an acanthus motif, lettered "The Victoria Psalter" on the upper cover and with the Queen's monogram "VR" on the lower cover, all edges gilt, retaining the original endpapers. 54 ff., including an illuminated frontispiece, title, two leaf dedication and 100 numbered text pages, all rendered in gold and colors in superb chromolithography on card. The binding a bit rubbed but overall in attractive condition, a few minor edge defects to the pages but in all a sound copy of this extraordinary work.
Designed by Owen Jones, this is one of the pinnacles of the Victorian illuminated style that he and Noel Humphreys pioneered. McLean, Victorian Book-Binding 1974, p.103.
