The photograph laid to board, some creases visible to surface, a faint transverse line across the image (possibly dry mount adhesive), a few other minor defects visible in a raking light; Together with a copy of Bauman's book The Everlasting Now, 1970, in which this image is published, Bauman's signed attestation of the event, a photocopy of the front page of the 28 September 1963 Press-Enterprise printing this image, and a recent letter of authenticity from Lion Heart Autographs.
A remarkably candid and appealing inscribed photograph of president Kennedy taken just weeks before his assassination in Dallas. The image was captured by Press-Enterprise photographer Fred Bauman at the Palm Springs airport upon Kennedy's arrival. Kennedy would spend two nights resting at the home of Bing Crosby before returning to Washington, just long enough for the picture to be printed on the front page of the Press-Enterprise that Sunday and seen by Kennedy before leaving. By report, secret-serviceman Jerry Behn, who appears in the photograph behind the president, was asked by Kennedy to call Bauman and request a copy of the photograph. Bauman sent two copies, requesting that one be returned signed, and proudly hung the inscribed photograph in his home for fifty years. Here the smiling Kennedy embodies the forward-looking optimism of his era and the cool of a sunny afternoon in Palm Springs in 1963.
