This was prepared by a Cuban notary public, with his stamp at the head. A literal translation of one portion reads "Freedom. In this city of Havana on the 30th of March, 1868, in front of me the notary and witnesses Sra. xxx of the age of majority of St. Nicholas street number xxx, who swears that she is single and finds herself enjoying her civil rights and has the legal aptitude necessary to formalize this instrument ... now freed from any captivity and servitude are two negro twins, of a mulata slave, Ruperta, who gave birth to them last January 30th and who are not even baptised and are now freed for a payment of 50 escudos"...
