London: Edward Jones and Randal Taylor, 1693. First edition in book form (preceded by broadside accounts of the trial). 20th century three-quarters calf, marbled sides. title, order to print, 1-28, 33-64pp. (complete as issued). Somewhat toned, a good copy with wide margins.
Charles, Lord Mohun, who was notorious as a rakehell and duellist, was accused of the murder of the actor William Mountford. As a peer he was tried before the House of Lords (a prerogative of the peerage), and was found not guilty. Though it is almost certain that while he did not kill Mountfold, he induced his friend Richard Hill to do so. ESTC R30170, Wing T2181,
C Estate of William W. Appleton
