. London: Rudolph Ackermann, 1842. First edition, first issue with four of the plates mounted as called for (the cloth backstrip is bound-in at rear, and is the correct blue cloth). Bound in full red levant by Riviere, all edges gilt. 9 x 5 5/8 inches (24 cm); vi, [ii], 402 pp. with colored (and printed) title pages and 34 very fine aquatint plates by Henry Alken. Joints unobtrusively restored, internally a clean copy, the plates with excellent coloring.
Sold with a copy of the 1914 reprint edition, handsomely bound in half red morocco. Tooley 65; Mellon & Podeschi 167; Schwerdt 1:36; Dixon 111.
