The name of the home of the president, traditionally known as the Executive Mansion, was formalized by Lincoln when it appeared on the first presidential stationery in the 1860s. Theodore Roosevelt, preferring the colloquial usage of "White House" as it had been informally known since the early 19th century, was the first to order official cards using the name.
