James Mill, along with David Ricardo, is one of the founders of classical economics. He was associated early with Jeremy Bentham, who was a major influence on his thought. This work originates in lessons he gave to his son John Stuart Mill (then aged about fourteen), and it is his most important contribution to economic theory.
