[OPTICS] RHODIUS, AMBROSIUS. Optica ... cui additus est tractatus de crepusculis. Wittenberg:
. Wittenberg: Laurentius Seuberlich for Samuel Seelfisch, 1611. Two parts in one, bound in a leaf from a 15th century manuscript (probably in the 19th century), all edges sprinkled. 6 1/4 x 3 5/8 inches (16 x 9.5 cm); [xxxiv, including title, dedication and preface], 418; [2], 3-63, [1] pp., woodcut diagrams throughout (signature Y is not present; this is correct, as is the fact that the last text page is mistakenly numbered 65, not 63). Slightly toned, corner of one leaf restored, generally a clean sound copy, early ownership notation on free endpaper.
The first edition of this work by Ambrosius Rhodius (Rhode), who was an assistant of Tycho Brahe, along with Johannes Kepler. The second work, which has its own title, discusses solar eclipses. The work is rare.
