. Boston: 10 August 1896. One page typed letter signed on a single sheet of Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute stationery, being a letter seeking contribution to the Tuskegee summer programs. 10 7/8 x 8 1/2 inches (27.5 x 21.5 cm); framed. A few abraded areas, one spot in lower margin, spots to upper corners.
In this letter addressed to Charles Greenough of Boston, Washington writes "The work at Tuskegee is so important in its results in showing the masses of the colored people in the Black Belt of the South how to help themselves and this our whole country ... even a small amount contributed by you would ... help lift the burden from my shoulders."
