Burgess of the Excelsior Brigade (of Civil War note) to free endpaper along with his stamp to the half-title and a few margins within, spotting and obtrusive old dampstains, binding rubbed and cracked, joints tender.
This is a seminal work on Martial Law, written by Macomb in his role as Chief of Engineers in 1809. He would go on to win praise for his service at the Battle of Plattsburg (1812) and saw continued service through the Seminole War (1835), ending his career as Commanding General of the United States Army.
