. [Washington, D.C.: GPO, 1952]. The front flyleaf inscribed by Presidents Truman, Nixon, Ford and Carter and is additionally inscribed secretarially for John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, lastly it is also inscribed by Robert Doughtery, a Renovation Commission member. Original gilt stamped cloth. 11 x 8 inches (28 x 21 cm); 109 pp., half-tone illustrations. Somewhat shaken, wear to spine tips and corners, some marks to pastedown which also has Moore's bookplate.
The White House was extensively renovated from 1948-1952 during Truman's presidency. The autographs in this book were diligently sought out by Richard T. Moore of New York and was first inscribed by Truman, who humorously (for the time) inscribed the volume "This was quite a job - but it should be good for several generations unless someone blows it up!" The book is accompanied by several original and copies of letters from the White House regarding the autographs including those who were happy to oblige and others respectfully declining.
