Of the same apparent year as the first edition, but without the appropriate type ornament on the title, the errata not present, and with differing pagination (so immediate was the impact of the novel, many editions as well as piracies were issued). Four volumes bound as two, period calf with paste paper sides, all edges red. 171, [1]; 161, [1]; 155, [1] pp.; 176, [2] pp. Light binding wear, pale staining to the end of the second volume. Bookplate, stamps of two private collections.
