. Washington, D.C.: likely circa 1890s. Brown leather album comprising approximately 32 vintage gelatin silver prints, mostly 7 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches (19 x 23.5 cm) or smaller, each flush mounted to recto and verso of a card album sheet; Together with a group of approximately twenty unmounted images. The album repaired with tape, some show through of adhesive, some toning and silvering, light curling to loose images, contains some duplicate images.
An interesting group of circa 1890s photographs of the expanding National Capital. The lot includes images major sites such as the White House, the Capitol, the U.S. Treasury Building, the Old Executive Office Building (now the Eisenhower Executive Office Building) but also interesting views of the Francis Scott Key House, Vernon Row, a group of African Americans (mostly children) standing before a group of advertising signs for Oysters, etc., views of bridges across the Potomac (possibly the Aqueduct Bridge), etc. Laid-in is a letter from the National Park Service dating the images.
