The New Constitution is a rare weekly periodical issued during Ohio's radical constitutional revision movement. Each issue was published under the motto "Power is always stealing from the many to the few." Samuel Medary was the publisher of a leading democratic newspaper in the state and this new periodical was designed to encourage interest in a constitutional convention, which convened in 1850 (the Convention Journal, also published by Medary, is present in the lot). The 1851 Ohio Constitution is rare in this form, with WorldCat reporting only seven institutional copies. Sabin 47293. The lot four volumes.
