George I Gilt-Gesso and Giltwood Pier Mirror
Circa 1720, in the manner of John Belchier
The beveled two-part mirror plate with star-cut upper section within a molded frame with flowerhead and foliate-carved reserves and surmounted by a cresting centered by a plume with three acanthus terminals flanked by eagles' head above scrolling foliage and pea shoot vines, the serpentine apron with a central shell and two brass candle arms. Height 71 inches (1.80 m), width 24 3/4 inches (62.8 cm).
