Spanish Carved Jet Figure of St. James the Greater
16th Century
The standing figure of the saint holding a staff and a book in his hands and wearing a pilgrim's hat with a shell; now on a velvet-lined plinth with two labels to the underside, one with the inked inscription Do(?) Borenius, the other with the number 45. Height of figure 4 3/4 inches (12 cm).

St. James the Greater, patron saint of Spain, the first apostle to be martyred, and brother of St. John the Apostle. His shrine is located at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, in Spain.
