Federal Figured Maple Pembroke Table
Rhode Island, early 19th century
With D-shaped leaves and a straight molded frieze drawer ending in square tapering legs. Height 27 1/4 inches, width 34 inches, depth 16 inches. Hand written letter attached inside drawer states 'This table was left to me by my Mother. It belonged to her parents Asa & Mary (Wheaton) Handy. Other furniture & likely this was bought by Mr. Handy (I think in New York) about the time of their marriage, which occurred Nov. 29.1799. My mother said her father used this to write at home. Other articles which belonged to Asa & Mary Handy are the mahogany sideboard, mahogany center table, mahogany square table with leaves & the rush bottom chairs." Signed J. Albert Stowe.
