Paris: Maison Quantin, [1887]. First edition. 4 volumes. Elegant full French red crushed morocco (but unsigned), gilt-tooled, inner gilt dentelles, top edges gilt, moire endpapers, original wrappers bound in. 12 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches; text printed in two columns; fine lithographed plates (some in full color), in-text illustrations. Some scuffing particularly at joints and extremities, one or two gouges to the spine of volume one, scattered foxing.
"A monumental work of scholarship in the French encyclopedic tradition. Still valuable for research, particularly in the history of French decorative arts. Encompasses all of the decorative arts.
