French Empire Ormolu-Mounted Jardinière by Jacob D. R. Meslée

Of tapering rectangular form with silk-lined exterior and fitted with a tole liner, the base with a drawer and raised on shaped feet; the underside stamped JACOB. D. / R. MESLEE. Height 32 inches (81.3 cm), width 44 3/4 inches (113.7 cm), depth 22 inches (55.8 cm).
The stamp of Jacob D. R. Meslée was used between 1803 and 1813 by François-Honoré-Georges Jacob, the favorite cabinet-maker of Napoleon, who made furniture for Malmaison, the country house of Josephine, as well as the Grand Trianon and Napoleon's apartments in the Tuilleries.
