Dutch Neoclassical Brass-Mounted Inlaid Mahogany Bookcase/Cylinder Top Desk
Late 18th/early 19th century
In two parts, the upper section with stepped cornince above a pair of doors with inlaid oval panels of thistles, flanked by freestanding columns with brass capitals and bases and opening to an interior fitted for shelves, the waited lower section with three spring-loaded frieze drawers above a slide-operated cylinder opening to spring-loaded small and long drawers, the prospect pigeonhole sliding to a secret well, raised on tapering square legs. Height 7 feet 8 inches (233.7 cm), width 48 1/2 inches (123.2 cm), depth 22 3/4 inches (58.2 cm).
