Comprising forty-seven dinner forks, thirty-six lunch forks, twenty-three fish forks, twenty-four dinner knives, twenty-three lunch knives, twenty-four fish knives, seventeen butter knives, thirty-six tablespoons, thirty-six dessert spoons, twenty teaspoons, four serving spoons, two sauce ladles, and a punch ladle; Together with a French Silver Eight Piece Carving Set. L. Bruneau, Paris. Total approximately 527 ounces, weighable.
This service descended in the family of William C. Rhinelander (1790-1878), one of New York's wealthiest landowners. His properties included a country estate of 72 acres in Yorkville on the Upper East Side along with almost the entire northern side of Washington Square Park from Fifth Avenue to MacDougall Street where the family kept their main residence from 1840 to 1914. At his death, the New York Times reported his estate to be valued at between $50 to $75 million.
