George III Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase Cabinet
In five parts, the dentil-molded cornice with swan's-neck pediment above a stigil-carved frieze centered by a panel with drapery swag above ogee-arched glazed doors opening to adjustable shelves, the projecting lower section with Vitruvian scroll frieze centered by cupboard doors opening to shelves and flanked by graduated drawers, on a molded plinth. Height 112 inches (284.5 cm), width 84 inches (213.5 cm), depth 22 inches (55.9 cm).

The alterations and replacements to the sides of this bookcase indicate that it originally formed part of the fittings of a large library, a companion bookcase with similar alterations being sold, Christie's, New York, April 19, 2001, lot 129; good restored condition, cornice cut at corners, later sides and moldings, pediment with dark varnish to scrolled ends, patches at hinges to outer doors of upper section, left door with patch below keyhole, left center door with patches, small patches to sides of center doors, old marks and scatches, cupboard doors with abrasions at center, drawer handles later, scuffs to feet.
