Russian Arts and Crafts Metal-Clad Wood Casket
Probably Sergiev Posad, circa 1900
Rectangular, clad with metal panels embossed with flowers, scrollwork and birds and set with paste jewels, the lower section of each side centering a fabric panel, the hinged cover centering a painting of prince in a white cherkesska. Height 6 1/4 inches (16 cm.), width 11 1/2 inches (29 cm.), depth 7 1/2 inches (19 cm.).

In generally good condition. Some wear and spotting to painting on cover. Metal cladding on cover, slightly bent on right rear corner. One "jewel" missing on front edge of cover. Otherwise, light surface wear to metal cladding and fabric panels in areas. Fabric panel on front top edge of base frayed in areas.
