Russian Silver Salt Throne
Ovchinnikov, with the workmaster's mark of Vasilii Semenov, Moscow, circa 1890
Of traditional form, on bracket feet, the rectangular back decorated with two opposing cockerels amid scrolling foliage, on a slightly tapering base with bands of geometric motifs, the hinged seat decorated with scrolling foliage within a chevron border. Height 4 1/2 inches (11.4 cm.), approximately 11 ounces (342 grams).
