Inscribed on the lower mat Nach dem Originale von Pierre de Hooghe von Charlotte Speck, Freifrau von Sternburg, im Jahre 1814, mit dem linken Hand in Aachen gemalt, als dieselbe in Folge des Durchgehend der Pferde auf der Reise begriffen, daselbst das rechte Handgelenk gebrochin. (After the original by Pieter de Hooch by Charlotte Speck, Baroness of Sternburg, painted in Aachen in the year 1814 with her left hand, since her right wrist was broken owing to the horses bolting during the course of a journey.)
