Spine sunned, spine ends bumped, a bit overopened, foxing throughout, map with short tear near mount, ink stamp and ownership signature to front free endpaper.
"After his efforts to journey from the Niger River to the Nile, Boyd Alexander returned to Africa, traveling through the Cameroons, Nigeria and into French Equatorial Africa (today's Chad), where he was killed by Furian tribesmen. Herbert, his brother, obtained Boyd's journals and published them along with a memoir recounting the earlier expedition. Of sporting interest are mentions of hunting gazelle, hartebeest and giraffe, with an unsuccessful hunt for buffalo" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 4.
