Publisher's dark gray cloth gilt. 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches; xv, 396, [4]; xii, 511, [1] pp; colored folding map, frontispieces, plates, half-titles, publisher's advertisements. Generally worn and rubbed with bumped extremities, a bit shaken with some loose leaves, endpapers toned, foxing throughout, booksellers tickets to rear pastedowns.
"This exhaustive description of Landor's trek across Africa is filled with evocative photographs, but contains only a smattering of sporting content. While in the Bahr-el-Ghazal, he hunted elephant though he barely escaped when a large bull chased him after his rifle jammed" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 159.
