[Austin, TX: privately printed, 1986]. First edition, inscribed by the author. Original green leatherette gilt. 11 x 8 inches; 245 pp.; typescript text printed on recto only, illustrated after drawings. Light rippling to spine, else fine.
"The author recounts in his own words the hunting exploits of such notables as Harris, Gordon-Cumming, Baldwin, Finaughy, Selous, Neumann, Bell, Sutherland and others. He also includes descriptions of his safaris into Tanzania where he collected elephants and oryx; Kenya after rhino, lion, and elephant; Zambia for elephant; and Natal after springbok, gemsbuck, nyala, kudu and the like. McGowan contracted a number of artists to do original illustrations based on events from the classic hunting works" (Czech). Czech, Africa, pp. 189-190.
