London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1876. First edition. Publisher's green pictorial cloth gilt, recased. 7 3/4 x 5 inches; xv, [1], 355, [2] pp.; 5 mounted Woodburytypes of hunting trophies, half-title, publisher's advertisements. Recased preserving much of the original spine but with new endpapers, corners worn, occasional thumbsoiling, booksellers ticket to rear pastedown.
The Hamran Arabs were prodigious hunters of big game, including elephant. Myers comments extensively on their way of life. The mounted plates of trophies are taken from photographs by Rowland Ward. Czech, Africa, p. 121 ("difficult title to locate"); Hilmy II, p. 55.
