Santa Barbara, California: privately printed, 1948. Limited edition, no. 160 of 175 pp., inscribed by the author to Kip DuPont. Original red pictorial cloth gilt. 91/4 x 6 1/8 inches; [28] pp.; frontispiece, in-text illustrations, limitation page. Spine ends just touched, endpapers toned, interior fine.
Cover title: Abyssinian Memories: Christmas 1948. This copy inscribed to Richard "Kip" Chichester du Pont, Jr. "First appointed U.S. Minister Resident to the Court of King Menelek by Theodore Roosevelt, Philip recounts his experiences in the region, including bagging kudu and Abyssinian oryx, with additional note of shooting at a marauding lion but missing. This originally appeared in The Yale Review in 1944, and Philip had these published in book form as Christmas gifts for friends and family" (Czech). Czech, Africa, p. 220.
