London: John Snow and Co., [1873]. First edition. Publisher's russet cloth. 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches; xi, 418 pp.; folding map, frontispiece, plates. Recased preserving original spine with repaired tear, endpapers renewed, map a bit foxed, else a nice copy.
"The volume is one of the earliest works dealing with Matabeleland, and gives one of the best descriptions of the country and its natives, nearly a quarter of a century before its occupation by the British" (Mendelssohn). Czech, Africa, p. 282; Mendelssohn II:493).
