Rhoda Newbury of Hartford, CT, lived 1786-1874. The embroideries from Miss Patten's School in Windsor, CT, used raised and padded metallic embroidery, such as this example. Pictorial subjects, often Biblical in theme, or coats of arms were used as the decorative motif, and included garlands in gold or silver thread. This example was included in the footnotes of With Needle and Brush: Schoolgirl Embroidery from the Connecticut River Valley, as an example from Miss Patten's School with central medallion.
