[Washington, D.C.: U. S. Coast Survey], 1844. Two sheets joined, sheets 1 & 2 only [of 6], laid down on linen, showing the northern part of the New Jersey shore. 25 1/2 x 66 inches. Pale staining, creasing, some fraying and loss along margins with map pulling away from linen backing at some spots, sold as is.
Two sheets from the first copper-engraved map issued by the U.S. Coast Survey, showing Sandy Hook and Shrewsbury in the east, and extending to Keyport in the west. Also visible are the Navesink River, Red Bank, Middletown, Shoal Harbor, etc. Schwartz, pp. 269 (ill.) and 271.
