Pair of George III Mahogany Armchairs
Circa 1780
Each with padded and molded oval back, serpentine seat and arms, with anthemion-carved toprail, raised on tapering legs; one bearing a printed partial label with a ducal coronet above 'N' and 'CL' and the partial number '33.', the other with an ivorine label numbered '455', the back rail with printed label numbered '455'. Height 37 3/4 inches (96 cm), width 25 1/2 inches (64.8 cm), depth 19 inches (48.3 cm).

Collection of the Dukes of Newcastle, Clumber Park, possibly Henry Pelham-Clinton (1720-1794), 2nd Duke of Newcastle & 9th Earl of Lincoln, Clumber, Nottinghamshire and by descent at Clumber until possibly sold by Henry, 16th Earl of Lincoln (1907-1988), Christie's, London, June 9, 1937.
